Welcome to Peteyville

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do you store your display?
Everywhere we had an empty space.

How much does it cost to run the display?
The electric bill for the 6 weeks is around $600.

How many lights are in the display?
There are over 500 strands of C9 and C7 lights in the display. We do not count the lights on the evergreens and bushes or the ones in the back yard.

How do you power the display?
The display is wired to a separate service on the garage. We could not do anything in the house so it had to be moved! It is a 200 AMP service. Currently there are 20 circuits and a multitude of meters, relays and underground wires. Since this was redesigned a few years ago there are a lot of extra extension cords!

Where did you get your Ferris Wheel?
I built the Ferris Wheel myself. I made the first design in 1992 and rebuilt it about 5 years later. I am getting ready for design #3.

How do you get the lights on the Ferris Wheel to light up without getting all tangled up?
That is top secret.

How do you come up with your ideas for things you have built?
That is what my wife calls bathtub engineering! I think of things to add to the display when I am relaxing in the bathtub & when I run out of hot water I get out. Come to think of it, I am running out of water a lot faster than I was last year. Hum?

Do you ask for donations to assist in paying for the display?
No we do not ask for donations. This is our way of giving back to the community. We have received Christmas cards in the mail addressed to Peteyville with cash.

Has your display ever been on TV?
A picture was on the news in Chicago once. But feel free to take a video and submit to all the television stations!

Have you ever won any awards for Peteyville?
Yes we have won several decorating contests over the years. You can see the newspaper articles on the website.
